These days one form of exercise just isn’t enough. Between yoga, resistance training, pilates, HIIT, cross fit, cardio, and barre. It is hard to fit it all in. So if you are feeling a bit of work-out overwhelm, use these tips to help take your workout to the next level.
Combine Two Sessions in One
For anyone who is time poor, this is the way to be working out. Combo workouts simply mean combining two types of sessions in the one session and they are a great way to build your fitness and strength much faster than normal.
Weights + Cardio
20 minutes of weights followed by a 20 minute hit of cardio is the ultimate fat burning formula! Build strength whilst your body is fresh. Then make your cardiovascular system work double time with a short burst of cardio.
Swim + Run
The perfect summer workout. Run and swim sessions are great for building fitness quickly. Make your own biathlon course and keep it short. Start with a 1K run / 200M swim / 1K Run and build from there.
Strength + Yoga
This is such a great combination if you are short on time. Resistance training helps to strengthen and tone your body. Plus you get the mental + spiritual benefits of yoga. 20 minutes in the gym followed by a 30 minute flow is a great lunch time workout.
- Finish with a hit of HIIT
Take your sessions to the next level with a short burst of interval training. It is a great way to build fitness and it also helps to boost the calorie burn of the session. Plus you get an awesome endorphin hit. Here are 2 great little HIIT sessions to finish off your workout.
- The Ladder
Choose any exercise you like. Some ideas are burpees, push-ups or squats.
- Use your stop watch to 30 second intervals. Start with 3 reps and then rest until the 30 seconds has elapsed.
- Complete 4 reps in the next 30 second interval.
- Keep building by 1 rep each 30 second interval until you can’t finish your allotted reps in the 30 seconds.
- Every Minute on the Minute
Similar to the above workout, set your stopwatch to 1 minute intervals and complete the following exercises.
- 10 push ups
- 15 squats
- 20 Mountain Climbers
Rest until your minute is up.
Repeat between 5 – 10 rounds depending on your current level of fitness.
- Help your body detox with these 3 Yoga Asanas.
